Since 2021, I have helped adults and youth build resilience and grow their emotional intelligence. Prior to that, I taught and published at UCLA and the University of Hong Kong where I contributed to thought leadership in diversity and inclusion internationally.

I was recognised by a university-wide teaching award because I explain complex ideas in simple and engaging ways. But those I mentor also flourish because I take the time to understand what others need.

While serving as an Equal Opportunity Advisor for five years, I saw that people in delicate situations need to be able to speak frankly and openly, especially about confidential matters that affect their well-being. My ability to stay calm during difficult or painful conversations gave them the courage to say what they needed to say.

Coincidentally, my interest in volunteering gave me opportunities to walk alongside those who need comfort and compassion. At work, I noticed that colleagues and students performed their best when the proverbial light was turned on from the inside. But I was at my own best outside the university, and that’s what led me to transition to coaching.

I now focus on helping others succeed. With my help, clients break old patterns and develop new habits to manage stress, live according to their values, lead well, or thrive during challenging times.

20 years in academia honed my listening and observational skills, expanded my innate curiosity, and increased my love of knowledge—all of which are useful in the coaching room. Together, we create space to untangle the thoughts, emotions or aspirations that can be crowded out in a busy world.

Others are able to grow in self-awareness when I ask gentle, perceptive questions that open up new thinking. It becomes easier to respond, instead of react, to challenges when we realise what our triggers are and how we want to change. These skills are useful to youth as well as professionals in our fast-changing world.

WHY CLIENTS TRUST ME

On a personal note....

Since moving to Hong Kong in 2010, I have been surprised to find my introverted self feeling at home in a concrete jungle. I'm passionate about working out with friends in the park under open skies, and volunteering in small and big ways at church.

My joy is in getting invitations to help, whether it's to sift through and summarize new information, put on my thinking cap to dream up new projects, or get my hands dirty digging up small trees growing in the wrong part of a garden. People who know me well know I can't resist saying hello to dogs and babies everywhere, and that I dabble in watercolours.
